He's known as Sid the kid and boy do hockey fans miss him. Pittsburgh Penguins forward star Sidney Crosby suffered a concussion last January - and his timetable to return is still unclear.
But the good news? He's skating again...Here's ESPN.
“If you’re a hockey fan or a Pittsburgh Penguins fan this was a positive day. It’s certainly not the good news we’re all hoping for, that Sidney Crosby is 100% and he’s ready for training camp, he’s gonna lead the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Stanley Cup finals again, but it isn’t the news we were dreading.”
Portland’s WMTW reports Crosby has been working out, but not as hard as he'd like.
“Crosby said he pushed himself to almost 90 percent of his full exertion but afterward had a recurrence of some of his post-concussion symptoms.”
Crosby detailed some of those symptoms and his recovery process in a press conference Wednesday. PensTVOnline has that video.
“I think 90 percent is good, but at the same time if there’s symptoms or if there’s thing that aren’t right, 90 percent really isn’t good enough. I’m putting myself in a position to get hit and probably mess that system up a little more, I don’t want, I don’t want to do that so, maybe I could get by with 90 percent, maybe I couldn’t, but I’m not gonna roll the dice on that, I think it’s important to get back to where I need to be.”
And the doctors say the same thing. You can't play until you’re completely symptom free. While his symptoms have lingered some are speculating his career could be over...
Pens fans will have to be patient-- Yahoo! Sports reports that Crosby might not be ready for Pittsburgh’s opening game against Vancouver:
“Doctors say he’s ‘not close’ to being cleared for contact in practice, which obviously jeopardizes the start of his season. But they also say there’s been ‘significant improvements recently’ and that this is a ‘manageable injury’ for Crosby.”
According to the New York Times - when Crosby was asked if there was a chance he might not play again - he said “it’s a pretty slight one” and added he “wouldn’t bet on it.”
