You don’t often hear “environmentally-friendly” and “Detroit Auto Show” in the same sentence. The show is famous for wheels, not wheat grass.
But this year’s theme appears to be a green one according to a number of media reports.
In its coverage, "Mother Jones" focuses on how auto companies are reconciling earth-friendly features with power and style. It notes that:
“This is the first major car show in Detroit since the introduction last fall of President Obama's new fuel efficiency standards, which will require all cars and light-duty trucks to operate at 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025, nearly doubling current requirements.”
And, talking about fuel efficiency, Triple Pundit takes note of the newest concept car offered by Toyota -- a carbon fiber bicycle called the Prius Parlee.
No word on if it has a coffee cup holder, but it does come with a built-in smartphone dock. According to Triple Pundit, Prius Parlees are not:
“Not just any old, embarrassing can’t-get-your-ass-up-a-hill electric bikes.”
But the greenest vehicle at the show just might be a Green Lantern-inspired Kia Soul, which the "Press & Guide" reports will be auctioned off for charity. The DC Comics car sports custom artwork and “a dapper green and black two-tone exterior paint scheme complete with green mirror-chrome tint on the windows.”
No word if it comes with a Green Lantern power ring.
