The rumours are true. Sex and the City will be returning. Only this time, it’s a little different. Fox News has the details...
“Carrie Bradshaw lives on. The CW Network picked up the prequel to Sex & The City, called The Carrie Diaries. It’s based on Candace Bushnell’s book about Carrie’s time in high school. It will be coming to TV screens next fall.”
That’s right, a Sex and the City Prequel will be hitting your TV screens. So, first the show; Then, the movie. Now a prequel? Good idea? Buzz Sugar weighs in.
“A TV show just makes more sense from a historical standpoint; the life of Carrie could never have started out as a movie, so why try to get all her youthful development done in two hours? I can imagine that she did a lot of living before she got to her 30s, so let's give them time to show us how she got there.”
But there are mixed feelings about the prequel. Sex & The City star Kristen Davis – who plays Charlotte – thinks it will ruin the magic of the characters in the original.
REPORTER: “Who would you like to play the role of Charlotte?”
DAVIS: “I'm not having a discussion about any kind of prequel, because I'm not for that.”
REPORTER: “You're not for a prequel? Why is that?”
DAVIS: “Why do you think that is?”
REPORTER: “Because you want to be in another sequel?”
DAVIS: “It's just bizarre, that's why. It's bizarre. We've only been playing these characters for 15 years, I don't really understand that concept.”
REPORTER: “So then you're game for a third installment of Sex and the City?”
DAVIS: “Of course I'm game.” (Video source: The Hype)
Others feel that dragging a show on never helps. A blogger for She Knows says… let bygones be bygones.
“I get that the powers that be want to keep cashing checks, but it’s time to let well enough alone. Sex and the City 2 was passable and even fun at times (despite the noticeable absence of New York City itself, the unfortunate clothing, and the excruciatingly bizarre karaoke/nightclub scene), but the entire concept is pretty close to jumping the shark. Let’s not give it a jet ski.”
But fans shouldn’t lose hope altogether. Carrie Bradshaw herself, Sarah Jessica Parker, is all for the prequel. She tells Access Hollywood…
“I think it’s wonderful that people want to hear Carrie’s story, and I understand… Peter Roth [President of Warner Bros. TV] is smart and wonderful and funny and I’m sure it will be in excellent hands.”
