It’s one of the worst tragedies ever to hit Long Beach, California. Eight people are dead and several others are wounded after a gunman opened fire in a hair salon.
HLN reports on the suspect’s possible motive.
“Witnesses say that a man apparently involved in a custody dispute just walked into the salon where his ex-wife worked and just opened fire … The LA Times reports the custody battle between the suspect and his ex-wife was so bitter that the judge would only allow them to email or text each other except for one phone call a week about their son.”
MSNBC is reporting the suspect didn’t get very far after leaving the salon – and is now in custody.
“Cops say the man then reportedly jumped into his car and sped away. The suspect was later caught less than a half-mile away at a traffic stop, carrying multiple weapons and wearing body armor. The man scene in this video has been identified as Scott Dekraai.”
Most media outlets have been releasing more information as they get it. But as of Thursday morning Fox News is one of the only media outlets reporting Dekraai’s ex-wife was among the victims.
Anchor: “One of the victims Dekraai’s estranged wife Michelle.”
Neighbor: “I knew she was in a custody, you know an ugly divorce, or custody battle whatever you want to call it. Its really devastating to come home and see this.”
It will go down as one of the worst tragedies in the areas history. Seal Beach hasn’t even had a homicide in several years according to the Los Angeles Times. The paper quotes a police who says,
“This could be one of our greatest tragedies … and it has had a tremendous impact on our small community.”
