With the addition of the new iPad and iPad Mini, the list of iOS devices included in the upcoming patent lawsuit between Samsung and Apple continues to grow. According to Apple Insider...

“..the new iPad 4 and iPad mini request is based on the alleged infringement of two UMTS wireless technologies and a number of ‘feature patents’ used in both the cellular-enabled and Wi-Fi only versions of the mid-size tablet.”

ZDNET explains Samsung believes these products are fundamentally similar to those already a part of the current lawsuit.

“In other words, if the earlier version of the iPad and iPod touch infringe on Samsung's patents, then these devices will also infringe on the same patents because the design and functionality of the devices are essentially the same.”

TG Daily says the number of disputed devices continues to increase, and it doesn’t appear the companies will be slowing down anytime soon.

“Samsung was recently permitted to add the iPhone 5 to its list, while Apple added the Galaxy Note 10.1 to its own. And with Samsung's much broader product range and faster development cycle, Apple may be planning to add more.”

A blogger for Foss Patents explains it’s unlikely the court will turn down the addition of the iPad Mini and fourth-generation iPad. But that might not be the case for the iPod touch.

“Suffice it to say that the court may very well rule on this permissively, but since it previously denied Apple a sweeping attack on Android 4.1, it might also hold Samsung to a certain stand of specificity and say that it would have had to actually name the iPod product line at an earlier stage of the proceedings.”

Apple Insider says the suit is scheduled to begin sometime next year.
