Sticking it to the fans. A hockey coach in Russia was suspended two games after he attacked a group of fans with a hockey stick.
KHL coach Andrei Nazarov went ballistic after opposing fans threw debris on the ice in the final seconds of a game on Sunday. Nazarov grabbed a stick from the team’s bench and started swinging at fans in the front rows. A blogger from Deadspin says there was potential for severe injury.
“He probably could have snapped 60-70 necks before being brought down, but the camoflauge-clad commandos serving as arena security made it on the scene just in time.”
Known for his rough style, Nazarov played 13 seasons in the NHL. A writer from CBS Sports says hey- old habits die hard.
“It only seems fitting that a former NHL goon like Nazarov would be leading the team. He had 222 penalty minutes in 60 games with the Sharks in 1996-97.”
Nazarov’s team lost the game 3-2. But not before he climbed over the boards and swung at spectators who threw plastic bottles on the ice. Fans were reportedly protesting his teams’ dirty antics. So who’s at fault? A writer from Business Insider says it’s not Nazarov.
“Fans need to understand that no matter what happens on the ice, it is never OK to throw objects at players, refs or coaches. Maybe the sight of a crazed Nazarov wielding a stick with a murderous look in his eye might help people remember this little fact.”
