Is your modern smartphone too slow? Don’t worry. If the rumors are to be believed, HTC is preparing a four-core monster for release early next year.
PocketNow reports its source is calling the phone the HTC “Edge.”
It will reportedly sport a 4.7-inch screen, 32 GB of internal storage, and an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor humming along at 1.5 GHz.
Chris Velazco over on TechCrunch says-- it sounds too good to be true.
“While I always make it a point to have a grain of salt at the ready when these sorts of things pop up, the Edge is a compelling enough package that I find myself hoping against hope that it’s real.”
SlashGear is skeptical, too. Yeah, it sure looks and sounds nice, but this phone doesn’t match HTC’s manufacturing patterns.
“[HTC has] only used Qualcomm in the past and said processor manufacturer doesn’t yet have an announced quad-core chip in the works – let’s see how this all adds up.”
If it does add up, the Edge would obsolete most of the phones currently on the market-- and some that haven’t even been released yet. PC Magazine puts it in context.
“In other words, it's twice as powerful as the HTC Rezound launched last week, which hits Verizon on November 14 for $300.”
Gizmodo says-- the Edge’s hype borders on ridiculous. Phone tech is outpacing the software it runs. It’s overkill.
“What app needs that much power? Foursquare? Angry Birds running on the Unreal Engine? A really, really angry email?”
For now, the leak is missing some important information-- how the battery is supposed to hold up under four cores and nearly five inches of screen being chief among them.
