Richard Glossip's Attorneys Make Final Plea Before Execution

The attorneys for Oklahoma death row inmate Richard Glossip have made one final plea to the U.S. Supreme Court as he faces execution Wednesday afternoon. 

An appeals court halted Glossip's execution Sept. 16 hours before it was scheduled to take place. 

Glossip's attorneys first petitioned U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who oversees Oklahoma's emergency requests. 

In June, Sotomayor voted against the use of midazolam, the drug that will be used if Glossip is executed. She called it "the chemical equivalent of being burned alive." 

But when she referred the case to the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals, the court voted to continue with Glossip's execution. 

Glossip's attorneys quickly made a final plea to the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday. Four votes in favor of a Supreme Court review are needed to delay the execution. 

Glossip was convicted of murder for the 1997 death of a motel owner. A man named Justin Sneed testified that Glossip hired him to carry out the murder. However, Sneed's testimony has been called questionable by some sources. 

Glossip is set to be executed at 3 p.m. Central time Wednesday.
