The release date of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus has been discussed about as much as the phone’s specs. Now, according to an article on Business Insider, the new, Ice-Cream-Sandwich-equipped device will launch on Verizon in December.
The Nexus, which is already available in the UK, was expected to drop this month. A blogger for IT World says, he’d even pinned the date to this week.
“...if you were planning a Black Friday shopping expedition to pick up an Android 4 phone, don’t bother. You may as well stay up Thursday night drinking beer and watching Punkin Chunkin — that’s what I’ll be doing. Believe me, I’m as disappointed as you are.”
And Engadget reports the reason for the holdup might have to do with bugs, like a wild volume control issue, found after the UK launch. In response to the malfunction, Google says...
“We are aware of the volume issue and have developed a fix. We will update devices as soon as possible.”
Even with the fix, the US has no firm date. And ZDNet notes Nexus’s official December 7th release date in Canada...
“…makes its lack of a U.S. release date that much more significant and also makes it pretty clear that the delay is on Verizon’s end, not Samsung’s.”
So why is everyone so hyped up about this delay? Blame it on the sugar. VentureBeat says...
“...it’s the first smartphone to run Android Ice Cream Sandwich, which ups the power of Android with a revamped interface, features like facial recognition, and touch-only buttons in place of normal physical buttons under the screen.”
