With all the money athletes make, you'd think they could get a freakin cab.

NFL Commisioner Roger Goodell suspended Stallworth indefinitely. Analysts are saying that Goodell will use this case as an example for the entire NFL and all of its employees that they hold themselves to a high standard and actions like this will not be tolerated. In 1998, St. Louis Rams Player Leonard Little was suspended 8 games by former commissioner Paul Tagliabue (Sp?)...But they are saying that Stallworth will be suspended at least 8 games and could be banned for life.

The average sentence is usually several years in prison, with the maximum being 15 years. It usally is in the 5-10 range...There are so many variables in these cases that make each sentencing much different.

Someone on ESPN the other day was saying it was a shorter sentence due to the fact that the person hit was not at a crosswalk and may have dodged in front of the car to get to a bus. Also, Stallworth called 911 immediately and remained on the scene until police arrived. That said, it does seem rather lenient as he was facing up to 15 years in prison. He will have to perform 1000 hours of community service, had his driver's license suspended indefinitely and will get 2 years house arrest.

It's hard to form on opinion on whether or not he got preferential treatment without knowing the average sentence. Don't most people serve life in prison? It seems very short. Did he leave the scene? The NFL should ban him from playing football. That, in itself, should not be the courts decision. For any youngin' who looks up to NFL players, all they see is drinking and driving gets you 30 days (even if your irresponsible act causes the death of another human being).

I wonder if Goodell will pull out the ol' "he needs to show genuine remorse before he's allowed to play again" card as he did with Vick. Probably not, as this wasn't quite the media circus Vick faced. Stallworth screwed up, and badly. I hope he has learned his lesson. That's got to be something nearly unbearable to live with for the rest of your years. In terms of what a normal citizen would receive for such a crime, I'm not sure... but my guess is that it would be a bit more stern than a month in jail.

Stallworth should not suit up for the Browns this year or any other NFL team for that matter. As Roger Goodell has mentioned before, playing in the NFL is a privilege and you lose that privilege when you commit a crime such as this. I have a tough time believing Goodell is going to let Stallworth return to the field this season.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell needs to lay down the law here. How is it that a guy who led a dog fighting ring and gets out of jail may still be suspended for a year, but a guy who kills someone in a drunk driving incident may only miss a month of the season?

That seems like an awfully short sentence. What do normal citizens get for the same crime?
