Be careful who you jokingly invite to your wedding. A Manchester couple’s recent experience proves anything’s possible.  LA’s KABC reports.

“Her majesty, the crasher. Francis and John Canning had no idea their wedding would be graced by royalty.  That’s them in their receiving line but instead of greeting an endless line of relatives, they curtsey and bow for the two royal guests.”

Well the visit wasn’t completely unexpected — because the Cannings invited the Queen and Prince Philip. The Washington Post explains.

“The 48-year-old groom knew beforehand that the queen would be visiting the town hall, and jokingly wrote to Buckingham Palace to invite the monarch …. He received a polite reply declining the invitation, but palace officials secretly arranged the meeting.”

The CNN Sunday Morning anchors joke, what if the wedding patrons didn’t recognize her majesty?

Wolf: “Every single wedding has people that are both protective of the bride and the groom. I’m sure if they saw someone walk in, they saw this lady and thought, who the hell does she think she is? The Queen of England? Well yes, she is!”
KAYE: “Imagine if someone walked up to her and said do you know someone here, are you invited?”

The couple told the BBC the presence of royalty was the best gift they could have hoped for and made for a day they will remember forever.

“She spoke to John and then she came over to congratulate us and she knew our names. We were a bit like … it was a bit scary you know but it was lovely. She was so nice, so gracious.”
