Penn State assistant coach and key witness Mike McQueary testifies today against former university officials who stand accused of lying to a grand jury and failing to report sexual abuse allegations against Jerry Sandusky.

ESPN has McQueary’s testimony. A warning: It is graphic.

“When I opened that first door, I heard rhythmic slapping sounds, two or three slaps. You would hear skin on skin. I was a little embarrassed...it sounded like some activity that I didn’t want to be a part of. As I turned and faced my locker I turned and looked into the mirror and at a 45-degree angle you could see right into the shower.”

This is a preliminary hearing, so the judge will determine if there’s enough information to move forward.

A criminal defense attorney tells MSNBC --  since the judge can rely on the credible grand jury report, this hearing is mostly useful for the defense.

“So really, this is a fishing expedition for the defense attorneys to get some information to maybe use at trial. That’s what I use it for and I’m sure that’s what they’re probably using this hearing for.”

But a reporter for Fox News says the defense will have to do an incredible job to absolve their clients.

“No doubt, defense attorneys will try and poke holes in his story, try and undermine his credibility. If they are successful, it is possible that at least the two administrators here could have the charges dropped, but right now that appears very unlikely.”

While previous reports say McQueary’s account of the incident in the grand jury report differs from what Tim Curley and Gary Schultz say they were told, CNN reports McQueary’s testimony was very clear.

“It was nine days later McQueary testified that he eventually got a call from the two Penn State officials who are now charged with failing to report child abuse and perjury before the grand jury. McQueary said he told them that something extremely sexual was going on, it was some type of sexual intercourse that happened allegedly between Sandusky and the boy.”

McQueary says he never went to law enforcement after the incident because campus police report to the Penn State officials he spoke with. Those officials banned Sandusky from bringing children on campus, which is why a writer for the “ology” blog says the evidence against the officials is damning.

“Whatever McQueary told them, whether it was as graphic as McQueary says it was or as vague as Curley and Schultz claim, was enough to enact the ban on Sandusky bringing children on campus, but not enough to make them go to police.”
