Even before results came in from all-important Florida — networks called the presidential race for President Barack Obama.

And the call was much earlier than the chattering class had expected — just a little after 11pm EST.

President Obama had reached 275 electoral votes — that’s five more than he needed to win — by 11:30pm eastern.

As for reaction, the partisan blogs said it all:

With The Huffington Post’s splash reading “Viva Obama!”

But the conservative Drudge Report simply displaying vote totals with an asterisk by the O.
