Could porn stars be healthier and happier than others? A new study published in the Journal of Sex Research suggests yes.

The study, which compared female adult entertainment actresses with other women, found the porn stars had “higher self-esteem, a better quality of life and body image … with greater levels of spirituality” according to the UK’s The Independent. (VIDEO VIA THE OPRAH WINFREY SHOW)

“The American researchers ... said they found no evidence to support the ‘damaged goods hypothesis’ that actresses... are less psychologically healthy compared with typical women.”

And, researchers say, they found no evidence women working in the adult entertainment industry were more likely to be victims of childhood sexual abuse.

They report, the adult entertainment actresses were also more likely to consider themselves bisexual. And apparently they like their jobs. The report says the actresses were also more likely to say they enjoy sex. (VIDEO VIA RT)

But Dawn Foster, a feminist commentator, says she hopes the study doesn’t overly glamorize the industry: “...women who are successful and in control of their careers in one pocket don't speak for women in the less scrutinized parts... [G]lossing over the exploitative aspects helps no one.”

And, the Daily Mail adds, “...drug use was found to be more prevalent among the entertainers. They were more likely to have tried ten different types of drugs compared to the control group.”

The study’s findings are published in the Journal of Sex Research.
