A single-piloted plane crashed through a nearby airport building around 10 a.m. local time Thursday. Two were confirmed dead with other missing.

This is what the scene looked like at a small airport in Wichita, Kansas, Thursday morning after a mid-sized plane crashed through the Flight Safety building, killing at least four.   

During a media briefing, Wichita Fire Chief Ron Blackwell said: "The aircraft struck the top of the building, catching the building on fire. ... It was taking off and was scheduled to leave maybe 9:36 this morning." 

Smoke poured from the top of the building after a Beechcraft King aircraft crashed into it about 10 a.m. local time. Officials say around 100 people were inside the building at the time of the crash and believe one person was inside the aircraft. (Video KSHB

Fire Chief Ron Blackwell says a number of people are still missing at this time. 

NBC reports the engine lost power shortly after taking off, causing it to go down. 

The status of the pilot is currently unknown. Federal Aviation Administration officials were on the scene at after the crash, and the National Transportation Safety Board has been notified.
