How ‘bout a double-scoop of Ice Cream -- courtesy Android Police -- and RootzWiki.
Both media outlets say -- they have the inside scoop on the latest Android OS -- called Ice Cream Sandwich.
And yes -- they say -- they have the pictures to prove it.
Here’s Android Police first -- on what’s new.
“Well, the big stuff is obviously all the UI (anchor only: user interface) changes - namely, blue: everywhere. But you can see that the notification bar has been totally revamped for the first time since Éclair....we can finally say months of "rumors" about what version of Android Ice Cream Sandwich will be have all either been clever trolls or totally unfounded speculation - because Google themselves have yet to decide what version number it is.”
So what else does does ICS have? RootzWiki says -- a panoramic camera and lots of Honeycomb-esque features -- like a Google search bar on top and an apps/widgets launcher. Oh, and RootzWiki says -- these are guaranteed accurate.
“...as of now, we know ICS is still very early in the works and not 100% functional, so don't expect to see it coming out next month or anytime soon. We also blacked out some parts of the images to protect the identity of our source.”
Alright...so what’s the big deal?
Well -- Ice Cream Sandwich is supposed to be the OS that conjoins the smartphone and tab experience.
TechCrunch says, the interface it sees -- tends to lend credence to that.
“...it seems to be much more spaced out: the distances between app icons and their names have increased a bit, and though the change is minor, it makes the whole layout more open. The notification bar is probably the biggest change, with room for bigger icons and updates. The app drawer also seems to have undergone a facelift, with different headers for apps and widgets, and an integrated link to the market for easy access.”
Phandroid is less than impressed with the pictures -- saying -- move along -- nothing to see here.
“....unfortunately they don’t reveal much. While we get a glimpse at the new, bluer look of things... it looks like the redone version of Android might be a bit underwhelming. We hate to pass judgement based on a set of pictures … but what has been hyped as a complete overhaul of Android merging Gingerbread with Honeycomb appears here to be more or less your standard iterative update.”
Still -- if you’re a Nexus owner -- you’re up first. And Gizmodo says, if that can’t get you geeked up -- then you’re probably not much of an Android geek.
“Nexus Prime owners should be stoked—they'll be the first to receive the update, then Nexus S owners then the rest of the community in a process, coined by President Reagan, known as "Trickle Down Upgradenomics."
