In a closed door meeting Friday with Congress, former CIA director David Petraeus said a reference to al-Qaeda was suspiciously absent from the Obama administration’s talking points on the 9/11 Benghazi attack. Sky News has more on Petraeus’ testimony.

“He believed that what happened in Benghazi all along, he said, he thought was a terror attack.”

Fox News reports, Petraeus indicated...

“...that someone or some group later changed the language that ambassador Rice made public.”

This stoked the fire of Benghazi controversy as Democrat and Republican lawmakers disagreed on the Petraeus testimony and the account given by the Obama administration.

Representative Peter King, a member of the House intelligence committee, told reporters the final memo was different from the CIA’s original report but it isn’t clear why. CBS News has the video.

“The original talking points were much more specific about al-Qaeda involvement... It’s still not clear how the final talking points emerged.”

U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice came under fire from Republicans for the talking points that described the Benghazi assault as stemming from a spontaneous demonstration.

Democratic senator Kent Conrad came to Rice’s defense saying the memos were vetted by different agencies and that Rice did what she was supposed to.

The New York Daily News quotes Conrad saying: “She used the unclassified talking points that were signed off on by the entire intelligence community.”

President Obama also came to Rice’s defense after she was publicly criticized by Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham. Here’s Politico with the video.

“She has represented the United States and our interests and the United Nations with skill, and professionalism, and toughness, and grace.”

CNN reports a U.S. intelligence official said the authorization of the final talking points is being investigated.
