A talking baby doll on shelves at Toys ‘R’ Us this holiday season, isn’t going to be making Santa’s “good list” - because of its potty mouth. Take a listen. (Video: WJXT)
DOLL: “Hey, crazy b***h.”
WOMAN: “Yeah, that sounds a little bit inaprroproate right there.”
Some parents are calling for the “You & Me Interactive Play & Giggle Triplet Dolls” - which are aimed at children ages 2 and up - to be pulled from the shelves. One parent tells KVII-TV...
“Not only the subliminal part of it, but the repetitive part of my 2-year-old, because she repeats everything. So I certainly don’t need a doll teaching her bad language.”
A spokesperson from Toys ‘R’ Us says it’s just “baby babble” - and some parents agree. The Digital Journal took a look at customer reviews on the Toys ‘R’ Us website, and quotes one father...
"The dolls are not cursing.... [it’s] all baby talk. I have heard things come out of my 2-year-[old’s] mouth that sounds like a curse, but know [it’s] not. ... But God forbid that we ‘think’ we hear something from a doll, its fire and brimstone. Shame on you."
But those reviews - and the dolls - are no longer available on the website as of Monday morning.
But the question remains - how did this “babble” get past the manufacturer? KSAZ speculates...
“I wonder if some prankster was in recording that babble and thought - you know we’ll make the first two dolls ‘coo’ but then we’re going to have fun with the third doll.”
This isn’t the first time a talking doll has caused a stir. Australia’s news.com reports...
“In 2008, Wal-Mart removed Fisher Price’s Little Mommy Real Loving Baby Cuddle and Coo doll after parents claimed it said: ‘Islam is the light.’”
Toys ‘R’ Us plans to continue selling the dolls, but will allow any customers who are unhappy with the toy to return it.
