Just a week after the death of Al Davis, the Raiders are back to wheeling and dealing. The latest grab? Carson Palmer -- from the Bengals. Cincinnati’s WCPO has details.
“We are getting multiple reports now that Carson Palmer will in fact be traded to the Oakland Raiders. ESPN and Fox Sports are both reporting the story now that the Bengals are set to trade the quarterback for two first-round picks -- one happening in next year’s draft, another in 2013.”
Whoa. Did they say two first-round draft picks? For a 31-year-old quarterback who hasn’t played all season? A Bleacher Report columnist says, same ol’ crazy Raiders.
“There’s a reason why teams don't make these kind of trades ... The short-mindedness of what the Raiders did will cripple their franchise for years.”
But this is all about the short-term, right? The Silver and Black Report says, it’s the right move -- for right now.
“At first glance, that seems extreme, but with all the youth already on the roster, and if Palmer regains his form, they’ll have themselves a franchise passer leading a team ready to win now and for the foreseeable future”.
What about the Bengals? ESPN’s Chris Mortensen says the Bengals hit the big time with this deal.
“I think it's a great trade for the Bengals. I think the one thing that everybody recognized is that Mike Brown, the owner of the Bengals, was not going to be given in to Carson Palmer's desire unless he got quite a bounty. And quite a bounty is getting at least a first and second rounder and that other second rounder could become a first rounder.”
One final note. With this trade, the Raiders won’t have a draft pick in the first four rounds of the 2012 NFL Draft.
