Pakistan responds to India’s dossier on the Mumbai terrorist attacks, five weeks after the dossier was submitted.

Pakistan's top civilian security official admitted Thursday that some of the attackers have roots in Pakistan.

Response to Pakistan’s admission has been mixed.

We’re following coverage from The Press Trust of India, The Times of India, NDTV, and GEO Pakistan.

The Press Trust of India praises the admission, claiming it only occurred because of increased international pressure.

“India should take Pakistan's response as a "first step" in the process of eradicating terrorism from the country and continue to ask the international community to exert pressure on Islamabad to "come clean" on the issue.” (PTI)

In the same article, the Press Trust of India quotes a former Indian Foreign Secretary who has the perspective there is still much to be resolved.

The Indian Home Affairs Minister backs that up in a statement made to the Times of India. He also adds,

“My initial response is that this is a positive development.  The dossier that we handed over on the 5th of January was an exceptionally tightly argued document, even if I say so.  It was a very potently argued document and no one could have ignored evidence there.  We are happy that the initial response is positive, we have received the response.” (Times of India)

Prior to the announcement, Pakistan held firm to a claim that the Mumbai attacks were planned in India and Austria.  NDTV takes a look back at the varying stances taken by the Pakistani government since the terrorist attacks.

“On November 30, Pakistan claimed their hands were clean.
On December 3, they claimed that the terrorists were stateless actors that have been operating throughout the region.
On January 6, Pakistan dismissed the Mumbai dossier as “not credible.””

As Pakistan responds in its latest admission - GEO Pakistan points out it was a worldwide operation…

“Money was transferred from Spain to acquire a domain name, used for communication over the Internet that was registered in Houston, Texas.” (GEO)

GEO TV also reports that Russia and an unnamed Middle Eastern country were involved. The Indian Prime Minister has scheduled a press conference for Friday to respond to Pakistan’s admission.

Why do you feel Pakistan has changed their stance on where the terrorists came from? How do you think the investigation should preceed?
