Well, you’ve heard of Wonder Bras, but now women can get a wonder butt. Padded underwear is the latest beauty trend.

We’re analyzing perspectives from The Wall Street Journal, WPLG, The Toronto Star and The Gothamist.

The Wall Street Journal explains what’s behind the craze.

“The popularity of curvaceous celebrities like Beyonce and Jenifer Lopez is ushering a new standard of booty, I mean beauty, in American culture. Companies from Victoria’s Secret to Maidenform are jumping on the booty bandwagon, introducing products that add a little junk to the trunk.”

This product, Booty Pop, is particularly popular. The company has been running infomercials since December, and now Target and Bed, Bath and Beyond carry it. Booty Pop expects to sell 1 million pairs by the end of 2010.

“The secret to Booty Pop is its strategically placed pads inside the panty that lift buttocks, leaving a sexier, more desirable booty instantly. ... Now you can have that super-sexy booty just like the celebrities. ... You’ll feel more confident and attractive with your new, sexy curves.”

But how do men and women really feel about the booty bandwagon? On Miami’s ABC affiliate, WPLG, one man says the underwear is just a lie.

“It’s false advertising. I mean, if you don’t have it, you don’t have it.”

Still, in The Toronto Star, one of the inventors of Booty Pop argues that, yes, it’s not real, but this is nothing unusual. She says:

“People are always finding ways to look better. You take off your padded bra, your contact lenses, your hair extensions. When it all comes off, you better have a good personality.”

But a female writer for Gothamist says these products contribute to cultural dilemmas by setting another standard of physically unattainable beauty.

“Ladies, now that you've starved your way down to a size 0, it's time to add a little shape to your stick figure!”

What do you think of this trend? Ladies  would you boost your booty? Is this attractive, or just a fleeting fad?
