Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn had a date Friday night--with a guy who isn’t her husband. KARE has the details.
ERIC PERKINS: “A Colorado teenager probably didn’t think his odds were too high, but sometimes you have to go for the gold. 16-year-old Parker McDonald, a sophomore at the Vail Ski and Snowboard Academy, wanted to go to the school’s homecoming dance, but he didn’t have a date so he asked Olympic gold medalist and Burnsville native Lindsey Vonn, who was in town taking a break from her World Cup schedule. And as you can see, she said yes. How cool is that?"
RENA SARGIANOPOULOS: "Adorable.”
Vonn spilled the homecoming date details on her Facebook page, writing...
“...while I was eating lunch with all the students a 15 year old boy named Parker asked me if I would be his date for their homecoming dance which is tonight. When Parker asked me he was cute, nervous and very polite so of course I said YES!...”
A Huffington Post writer says it probably didn’t hurt McDonald’s chances that Vonn never went to her own school dances.
“...if you want a better chance at your favorite athlete or celebrity accepting your invite to the big dance, ask one who was too busy training to have a normal childhood.”
Asking a girl to the school dance can be a big leap of faith, and a Gather writer says McDonald’s courage might get other guys to approach their dream girl.
“Perhaps what he showed in asking will become a rallying cry for nervous boys everywhere to get past the what-ifs and understand there is no harm in asking. If Olympics champion Lindsey Vonn said yes, who knows what other young women might say.”
McDonald told the Vail Daily he asked Vonn to the dance because “she’s awesome.”
