U.S. President Barack Obama is now planning a big health insurance reform speech at joint session Wednesday night following what many media outlets are calling a disastrous month for the White House administration.
Our research finds media outlets are looking at if Obama has lost control of his overhaul plan, and what could be the outcome of this now much-anticipated speech.
The White House correspondent for MSNBC says, bottom line, the President doesn’t have much of a choice.
“If this quote on quote doesn’t work, if he can’t keep democrats behind him on this, and essentially, that’s who the audience is, when it comes to this speech joint session, if he can’t get them united behind him now to get it done and go forward, there really isn’t another, there really isn’t a plan B.”
A FOX and Friends host also looks to Democrats as a main audience, but focuses the debate on one crucial factor: a public option.
“If included in that plan is a public option, he’s going to tick off half his party, if included in that plan is not a public option, he’s going to tick off half his party.”
And while a CBS News reporter interviews a House Democrat who wants to see more leadership from the President, she also offers a totally different view: that the President has already played his part.
“Mr. Obama has been dogged advocate, giving 27 speeches exclusively on health care and mentioning his chief objectives for reform in another 92 remarks.”
Finally, CNN turns to the President’s strong turf: the Internet and online communities. The network asks the TechRepublican.com founder if Obama has the issue under control.
“Partly because of the vastness of opinion and discussion online, it's difficult for the Obama administration, or any single group, to control the health care debate.”
So what do you think? Will the President’s speech make a difference in the fight for reform, and is it even the right move to make?
