President Obama’s on the road stumping for his jobs plan, in North Carolina Wednesday.  And he’s asking voters to back him -- over Congress -- in a battle to create jobs.

Republicans are in no mood to give him a break on Mr. Obama’s proposed tax increases on American’s rich to pay for his jobs bill.  But the President continues to push...

CNN has the details:

“The bulk of paying for the $450 billion plan would come from limiting itemized deductions that wealthy Americans take. We're talking about individuals that make $200,000 or more, or families earning $250,000 or more. There are also tax increases that you would see affecting hedge fund managers, oil and gas companies, as well as corporate jet owners.”

The proposal has quickly divided lawmakers. The Republicans -- say no tax increase -- no matter what.

Here’s Georgia Republican Paul Broun on the House floor Wednesday.

REP. PAUL BROUN (R-GA): “Hiking taxes in the middle of a recession will make our economy worse, not better. When will this administration learn that more of the same just simply isn't good enough anymore. (Video source: C-Span)

But The New York Times talked with a member of the president’s economic council -- who tells the Times -- the American people recognize the need for change.

“There’s been an increasing awareness among the public that at a time of shared sacrifice needed to get our economy moving again and create jobs, you can’t hold harmless hedge fund managers, corporate jets and oil companies.”

The New York Times notes, in the end HOW the jobs bill is paid for is ultimately up to the bipartisan deficit reduction “super committee” -- who decides where the money will come from in the end.
