President Barack Obama’s Midwest bus tour rolled to a stop Wednesday in Illinois. The trip has been the subject of heated debate since it began, and tempers are still hot, even as the pavement starts to cool.
ANCHOR: “President Obama is going to Minnesota today, starting a 3-day 3-state bus tour.”
JON STEWART: “Oh for F***’s sake. Seriously? Obama is back in campaign mode already?”
REPORTER: “White house official says this is a official event not a campaign event.”
ANCHOR: “Obama’s assistant insist this is not a campaign trip”
JON STEWART: “Right this is not a campaign trip. I’m sure president is just has frequent Greyhound miles he had to burn.”
Speaking of Greyhound, it’s Obama’s wheels keeping Republicans spinning.
FOX News has more.
“Some say the million dollar blacked-out behemoth looks like it should be carrying Darth Vadar, rather the president. Descriptions range from “dark and imposing,” to “really scary.” A BBC writer say, “It looks more like a police mortuary van than a symbol of hope” call it the, “battle bus from Mordor.” And one White House blogger joked, “I fully expect Obama to get off the bus and instead of kissing babies say to then, ‘Luke, I am your father.’”
Let’s face it - is it really the bus opponents are scared of? Maybe it’s -- where the bus is from?
CBS has more from Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus...
"He should spend more time in the White House doing his job rather than riding around on his Canadian bus.”
But a Chicago Tribune blogger points out -- this isn’t the first time an American president has turned to the Canadian bus manufacturer.
“...no mention was made by Republican National Chairman Reince Priebus or Illinois GOP Chairman Pat Brady that a re-election seeking President George W. Bush used a bus from the same manufacturer, Quebec-based Prevost, for a spring 2004... campaign tour through the Midwest.”
