When President Obama won reelection Tuesday night he set an election record, with the highest unemployment rate since FDR to earn a second term.

OBAMA, VIA MSNBC: “America I believe we can build on the progress we’ve made and continue to fight for new jobs and new opportunity.”

When Franklin Roosevelt was reelected in 1936, the jobless rate was in the double digits.

Today, it stands at 7.9 percent.

But US News and World Report’s Rick Newman says four economic trends put him over the top:

1) Gas prices went down
2) More jobs are being added
3) Stock market gains of about 110 percent since March 2009
4) Growing consumer confidence

In addition though, CNBC points out more than 50 percent of voters in exit polls still blame George W. Bush rather than President Obama for the economy.

President Obama has promised to create 1 million more manufacturing jobs by 2016 — though he hasn’t provided a lot of detail as to how he’d do that.
