"Though I am glad that the only person whose ratings fell more than mine last year is here tonight.  Great to see you, Jay! ... I'm also glad that I'm speaking first, because we've all seen what happens when someone takes the time slot after Leno's." (CNN)

"You know I've had the privilege of meeting President Obama a number of times.  It always surprises me to hear critics describe the president as 'cold' and 'aloof.'  I've never found him that way.  He loves to socialize.  Health care, car companies, things of that nature." (CNN)

President Barack Obama attended his second annual White House Correspondents' Dinner, hosted this year by Jay Leno.  The two took turns at the mic poking fun at themselves and others, but how did they both do?
And, is this what you love or hate about Washington politics?

We're looking at perspectives from Fox and Friends, The Huffington Post, CBS News and MSNBC.

First praise for the president  from all people — 'Fox and Friends' whose panelists liked Mr. Obama's routine — despite a few jabs pointed at Fox News.

"They were all yucking it up while President Obama took to the stage and pretty much hit a home run with some of his jokes... One of my other favorites, as a parent, he said, 'You know, the Jonas Brothers are here.  Sasha and Malia are devotees, big fans.'  And he said, 'Two words for you, Jonas brothers: predator drones.'  Warning the boys to stay away from his daughters, so I appreciated that humor."

But the surprise of the night was perhaps the chilled reaction to Jay Leno's set, which The Huffington Post was less than impressed with.

"If you like your jokes covered in bland gravy with a side of telegraphed punchlines, then Jay Leno's White House Correspondents Dinner was a feast for the funny bone... Following Obama's impressively killer set, Leno seemed fidgety, over-reliant on his note-cards, and rushed."

Politico's Anne Schroeder Mullins tells CBS News it's not necessarily a good thing for Washington to get so buddy-buddy with the press.

"Well I think D.C. loves D.C., and I think that people on the outside are like, 'We don't really care about D.C. that much.  We care about what's happening in D.C., but we don't care about the palace intrigue and the pomp and circumstance.'"

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough says those concerns are overblown and that the media can do its job even while making friends in Washington.

"So, we were saying before, Ariana, that there's some people who say, 'Oh, I won't go to those events because it's the press getting too cozy with Washington.'  My feeling always is, and you're friends with people, but if they do something wrong you go after them.  It doesn't matter if you laugh at their jokes or not."

So was the White House Correspondents' Dinner just another love-fest between the president and the press?  Or do people need to grow up and understand  this is just how business gets done in D.C.?
