He’s warming up. President Obama spoke to a boisterous crowd in Detroit on Monday in what some are calling a test drive for his big jobs speech coming up on Thursday.
Major headlines on Labor Day focused on Obama’s hint toward a new stimulus – and his challenge to republicans.
ABC News goes with “Obama to Republicans: It’s Time To ‘Get On Board’
And the LA times says, “Obama warns GOP in advance of jobs speech”
USA Today is on board with that too it headlines, “Obama Asks If GOP Will Put Country Before Party”
But the New York Daily News picks a more optimistic quote ...“Obama’s Detroit Jobs Speech: “I still believe both Parties can work together."
Whether you believe that or not – you can believe President Obama is back on the campaign trail. Here’s CNN.
“Reporter: The president came to Detroit and delivered a campaign style speech.
Obama: As long as I'm in the white house, I'm going to stand up for collective bargaining.
Reporter: For a moment, it seemed like old times.
Crowd: Four more years! Four more years!”
“We have roads and bridges across this country that need rebuilding. Labor is onboard, business is onboard. We just need congress to get onboard. …
"The time for Washington games is over.”
Jobs, Jobs, and more jobs – that’s what he’s been promising.
So for FOX News there’s no better method of attack right now than to go after the jobs – or lack there of…
“This - coming after a dismal jobs report last week, which showed employers added no new jobs last month. It is the first time the government has reported no net changes in jobs in more than six long decades.”
And for Republican presidential hopefuls – this is a bulls eye.
“Mr. President that is not a recovery that is an economic disaster.”
“Romney: And he did just the opposite of what American needed.”
“I’m pretty frustrated with the speech idea, and frankly the things that are leaking out of the White House. None of them are like what I’ve been hearing from businesses all over the country.”
The bashing will continue – but what WILL Obama say Thursday? Could another stimulus be in the works? Listening closely on Monday, the media says, it’s possible.
The Atlantic wire says “Obama Hinting at Stimulus Before Jobs Address”
And the Wall Street Journal, “Infrastructure Likely Part of Obama Jobs Push”
“The White House has been debating whether to put forth a limited package that both parties can agree on, or to offer a grander vision that is unlikely to pass Congress but could serve as a rallying point for Democrats heading toward the election and to underline the differences between the two parties.” (The Wall Street Journal)
