The smartphone war -- is making for some interesting alliances.
The latest entry? Nokia -- and Windows Phone 7.
Now all this latest weapon in the tech arsenal needs -- is a name.
“The company’s Head of Developer Marketing in North America has started a poll 5 days ago asking his Twitter followers to vote for one of the (ridiculous) suggestions or submit their own. ”
The finalists? Phoenix, Genesis, Fusion, Metro and Elite.
Phoenix -- which, you might remember, rose from the ashes -- earned the most votes.
Which might be appropriate -- what with all the shelling going on in the smartphone war. Chris Pirillo calls Nokia’s partnernership with Microsoft -- smart. As in -- keep your friends close -- and your potential enemies closer.

Information Week’s Eric Zeman says -- this partnership is battle-ready.
“...Anyone who knows Nokia knew as soon as the company announced its intent to use WP7 that its hardware design capabilities would provide the differentiation it needs to succeed with WP7.”
Appolicious’ Phil Hormshaw says Microsoft may smell opportunity with the departure of Apple CEO Steve Jobs -- but he says, the company still faces big obstacles.
“Windows Phone 7 had previously made up some ground against its competitors, but it still struggles with basic visibility ...it doesn’t seem to have quite the product perks to make it stand above Android and iOS.”
From the consumer’s side, Matthew Miller from ZDNet calls Windows Phone 7-- the most stable mobile phone OS.
“I don’t know if I have just been blessed with an uncanny knack for using stable WP7 devices, but...there are many more customers just as pleased as I am with the stability of Windows Phone 7.”
