Sugarplums are so last century-- nowadays it’s all about apples. Recent data from Nielsen says iPads are showing up on kids’ wishlists more than ever.
A poll of kids age 6-12 shows 44% of respondents wanted an iPad more than any other gadget, including computers and game consoles.
And it’s not just kids-- Slashgear says those polls show a consistent iPad lust across all age groups.
“Finding something the whole family can agree on at Christmas is usually a nightmare, it seems as long as what’s in giftwrap is rectangular, has a 9.7-inch touchscreen and an Apple logo, then kids, teenagers and adults will be happy.”
Nielsen reports this isn’t the first time interest in Apple’s tech has topped the charts. The original iPad led kids’ Christmas wishlists last year, too, when 31% of the respondents in the 6-12 age group wanted to see a tablet under the tree.
VentureBeat points out-- the 2011 poll is far from comprehensive. These survey numbers are limited to tech products.
“... the good news: Nielsen’s data is limited to electronics. There’s still hope that your child will get a kick out of unwrapping something more old-fashioned and affordable, say a pet rock or board game.”
Ok, Maybe not a pet rock - but TIME suggests it may not make much of a difference.
“Granted, the survey only applies to electronics, not to gifts in general, but honestly, what else do kids want these days? Furbies? Micro Machines? Hah!”
Analysts are predicting Apple may cut its tablet prices soon to compete with cheaper offerings from Barnes & Noble and Amazon.
