2011 had Newsy covering some pretty wild entertainment stories.
Teen bride Courtney Stodden …
… babies dressed as prostitutes on Toddlers and Tiaras, which some say isn’t all that different from Courtney Stodden …
… a paternity suit against Justin Bieber ..
… and -- sadly -- a suicide that rocked the usually superficial reality show The Real Housewives.
But, we forced ourselves to narrow it all down -- here are Newsy’s top five.
At No. 5 -- It was a year of goodbyes from iconic daytime darlings. First -- in May, Oprah Winfrey signed off -- telling fans:
OPRAH: “You and this show have been the great love of my life.”
In June, Meredith Viera tearfully departed The Today Show.
And in November, Regis Philbin left LIVE! -- and kept his promise not to cry.
PHILBIN: “God bless you all, and I hope I see you again real soon. Thanks everybody!”
At No. 4, a different kind of goodbye -- celebrity splits.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver separated when it was revealed he’d fathered a child with their longtime housekeeper.
Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore announced their divorce after a 22-year-old woman said she and Kutcher had a one-night stand.
In the surprise split of the year, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony separated in July.
And in the not-so-surprising, but oh-so-short marriage debacle of the year -- Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries parted ways after 72 days.
In our Number 3 spot -- the trial that helped give peace to Michael Jackson’s family -- Conrad Murray’s murder trial.
“Find the defendant, Conrad Robert Murray, guilty of the crime of involuntary manslaughter trial.”
Murray got the maximum sentence. And at No. 2 -- it’s Charlie Sheen’s very public meltdown.
Goddesses, getting fired from Two And A Half Men, a national tour -- it can all be summed up in one word:
“Winning.”
“I’m bi-winning. I win here and I win there.”
“I got tiger blood, man.”
“Dying’s for fools.”
“I’m just epic.”
And after all the splits and craziness, the world was happy to watch a sane, loving couple make their union official. Dum-dum-dum-dum -- it’s the Royal Wedding!
“Lots of shouts in the crowd here [kiss], and that’s the reward.”
23 million people in the US alone watched the wedding of William and Kate, with hundreds of millions tuning in worldwide. From the hats to the horses to Pippa fever -- the wedding was the year’s hot topic, and a happy one at that.
That’s all for this year -- but what will happen in 2012? Will the world finally be done with the Kardashians? Will Justin Bieber father a baby for real? Newsy’s got you covered.
