In tech news, the iPhone 4s pre-orders began around midnight Pacific time. Computerworld studied the providers and said Verizon was first off the line.
The site says Verizon kicked off sales just after midnight, then iPhone freshman Sprint joined in 20 minutes later. Apple’s site resumed pre-orders by 12:35, and the last horse in the race was AT&T, who didn’t get in on the action until 1 am.
In world news, the Nobel Peace Price has been awarded to a trio of women. They will all split the award for their nonviolent fight for the rights and safety of women. HLN has more.
“This just in. The 2011 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded jointly to three women Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee and Tawakkul Karman. The committee applauded the non-violent struggle for the safety of women. Sirleaf is Africa’s first democratically elected female president. She is president of Liberia. Gbowee organized women to end the war in Liberia, and Karman played a leading role in the fight for democracy and peace in Yemen."
In sports, the baseball post season field is getting thinner by the day. The Tigers bested the Yankees Thursday night, moving on to face the Texas Rangers in the ALCS. On ESPN, the first name to come up was A-Rod.
“What does this do for A-Rod’s legacy here in New York?"
“Well he’s certainly going to get a lot of criticism. And he was aware of that when he met with reporters. He said this one is going to hurt for a long time- talking about this loss- and he walked through some of the situations he had and said ‘I just didn’t get the job done.’ Certainly in the days ahead there’s going to be a lot of talk about how he struggled, the numbers he put up in the postseason, and Alex is gonna have to live with that the entire winter.”
