This is Newsy Now and here are the headlines you need to know
First in sports. The St. Louis Cardinals force the Texas Rangers back on the field for game seven tonight after what many are calling one of most memorable World Series games ever. And an analyst on MSNBC’s Morning Joe talks about the Card’s hometown hero.
“David Freese, a kid who grew up in the St. Louis area rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals, idolized players, some of whom are on the field right now with him. … And here he is walking off the field with a win for the Cardinals.”
In US news, following the violence that left protester and veteran Scott Olsen with a skull fracture at Occupy Oakland on Tuesday, protesters gathered for a different reason. MSNBC has more.
“At least 1,000 people attended a candle-lit vigil in Oakland, Calif. to honor an Iraq war veteran, who was critically injured on Tuesday in a clash between police and anti-Wall Street protesters. On Thursday, friends and family members said 24-year-old, former-Marine Scott Olsen was awake and lucid.”
In world news, with 373 people dead and more than nine million affected by heavy rainfall, CNN reports Thailand is facing its worst flooding since 1942.
“What’s happening today is heartening because people were very concerned that today and this evening we would see some really really terrible flooding in the inner-city of Bangkok. And we really haven’t seen really really high water. … the concern, of course, is that the highest tide is expected within the next 24-hours.”
Also in world news, Italian Prime Minister Silvo Berlusconi is making headlines again. This time, the controversial leader dismisses rumors that he will resign saying Italy needs stability. The Daily Mail says...
“Reports earlier this week said [Berlusconi] had agreed with [Umberto] Bossi to step down by 'January at the latest' and hold elections in March 2012...”
In response, the PM said...
“'There is no pact to have an election in 2012. Italy needs stability and to have an early election would be against the country's interests.'”
