In world news -- key figures are set to testify before Parliament on Tuesday in the News International phone hacking scandal. That scandal has resulted in arrests, the resignations of top Scotland Yard employees. Now, police will investigate if it is also linked to the death of one whistle blower. Here’s MSNBC.
“Rupert Murdoch and his son are preparing to appear before parliament today. Police are arresting 11 people since the hacking and bribery allegations emerged including the CEO Rebekah Brooks who heads to parliament today..."The guardian" newspaper is reporting that police found a bag in the trash near Rebekah Brooks' home saying the bag contained a computer, phone, and paperwork.... CNBC reports that Murdoch is considering stepping down as News Corp. CEO."
In U.S. news -- the debt ceiling drama continues as Republicans tout another bill to balance the budget. For now, they lack the bipartisan support to push it through Congress. HLN explains.
MEADE: “House lawmakers might vote today on a republican plan called cut, cap and balance. It's not supposed to deal with the debt ceiling."
REID: “The cut, cap and balance plan is the kind of strong medicine Washington needs and the American people want."
CARNEY: “This is a measure that is designed to duck, dodge and dismantle. Duck responsibility, dodge obligations and dismantle eventually, if enshrined into law, it will not be, but it would essentially require the dismantlement of our social safety net."
Still in U.S. news -- American diplomats are ready to talk with Moammar Gaddafi face-to-face. Al Jazeera reports Gaddafi’s top officials have urged the leader to step down before the talks end.
“Members of the United States met with representatives of the Gadahfi regime of Libya and the message from the Americans to the Libyans was very simple, ‘It’s time for Gadahfi to leave power.' The Senior U.S. official is telling Al Jazeera the message needed to by sent in light of the fact that not just the United States but other countries are also recognizing the [the rebels] as well."
In tech news -- CNN is ready to stream its content to the web and mobile devices -- all of it. It claims it has become the first channel to offer a streaming 24-hour live news feed online. Here’s CNN in its own words.
