In Washington D.C. -- President Obama is set to deliver his second State of the Union address on Tuesday, and the media is already abuzz with speculations.
POLITICO suggests the night will be defined by the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords -- and the nationwide discussion for civility in the political debates that follow.
Meanwhile, The Hill suggests the address will finalize Obama’s transformation into a business-friendly, centrist figure -- an image the White House hopes will get him re-elected in 2012.
To East Jerusalem -- the focus of media discussion after Al Jazeera and The Guardian leaked 1,600 documents dubbed the Palestinian papers.
The documents contain the Palestinian Authority’s internal notes from peace negotiations with Israel and the US. The Guardian highlights the most important revelation: Palestinian negotiators have secretly agreed to accept Israel’s illegally built settlements in East Jerusalem. The papers also show a surprising close co-operation between Palestine Authority and Israel security forces.
To the tech blogosphere, where one hacker is selling access to some US military and government websites for prices up to $499.
ComputerWorld reports the hacker was making sales pitches in underground forums. Also on sale: personal information from databases -- $20 per thousand records. The report quotes one blogger who implies the incident highlights the often overlooked threats of vulnerable websites.
Next to Arlington, Texas, where Cowboy’s stadium will host the Steelers versus the Packers in Super Bowl XLV.
The Pittsburgh Steelers overcame the New York Jets in the AFC Championship, 24 - 19, while in the NFC the Packers cleaned up the Bears to win 21 - 14. The two rivals will face off on February 6th, with the Steelers looking to win their 7th Super Bowl title -- securing their record as the most Super Bowl wins of any NFL franchise.
Finally in California, American fitness Guru Jack LaLanne past away Sunday from respiratory failure after contracting pneumonia. He was 96.
LaLanne is best known as the father of the American fitness and health movement. CNN reports even before the craze Jack forged his own home fitness TV show which ran for three decades. He also gifted gyms with the first leg extension machine.
