This is Newsy Now and here are the headlines you need to know.

Egypt awaits results from its first election since the ouster of Hosni Mubarak.  Voter participation is reportedly as high as 70 percent.  Fox News explains why some parties ahead in the polls are causing concern for international observers.

“… the political wing of the Islamist Muslim brotherhood organization, that's the freedom and justice party, will also do well, maybe as high as 40 percent ... We did hear a lot of support for them on the ground but also the promotion of sharia law, the attitudes towards women and social mores have a lot of people worried here.”

On World AIDS Day, President Obama announces a $50 million boost in the fight against the disease. The President along with past presidents will hold a panel on AIDS at George Washington University.  CNN’s Sanjay Gupta explains the talking points.

“30 years now, now 30 million funerals. That's obviously the headline when looking at the past. But today is really more of a discussion of the future. How do you continue to make some of the progress that they made over the last ten years, especially with the economies down all over the world.”

A Texas man allegedly shot five people, four of them children, before turning the gun on himself after a suspected domestic dispute.  KRIV spoke with neighbors of the small community after the incident on Wednesday.

ANCHOR: “The shooting actually happened right as classes ended at a nearby elementary and junior school.”
WOMAN: “My next door neighbor said she saw one of the boys laying beside the vehicle and apparently the little girl was inside the truck she was shot too... I don’t really understand what went wrong.”

Police discovered a tunnel six football fields long in Mexico.  Good Morning America explains the underground path was fully equipped for drug trafficking into California.

“Take a look. Six football fields long. It connects warehouses in Tijuana and San Diego. And was equipped, among other things, with electric rail cars. $53 Million in marijuana has been confiscated thus far.”

Lindsay Lohan has a new mentor to set her on the right path.  MSNBC explains who was willing to step up to keep Lilo sober.

“Courtney Love is claiming to be Lindsay Lohan's sobriety coach. Yes, you heard me correctly. The notorious 47-year-old singer told ‘details’ magazine. ‘I've taken up Lohan because nobody else will.’ No comment from Lohan. That's a screaming endorsement. No one else wants you, I will take you.”
