In U.S. News -- after the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bitterly fought debt-limit bill -- that legislation moves to a vote in the Senate this morning. MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell can’t remain quiet about their quick fix.
“The United States House of Representatives has just passed the largest deficit reduction package in history and the most ill-conceived... the stupidest deficit-reduction package in history... and unfair deficit reduction package in history. Without a single hearing in what is actually in the bill. The bill is a product of a know-nothing Republican House of Representatives that loudly flaunts its economic illiteracy..."
Still in the U.S. -- divers found the body of 11 year-old Celina Cass in the Connecticut River on Monday. NECN reports investigators have ordered an autopsy scheduled for Tuesday.
ANCHOR: “This is considered a suspicious death, correct?”
REPORTER: “It certainly is. And the assistant to the attorney general for the state of New Hampshire is looking at this as a criminal probe in her words yesterday. The next major step of this case will be the completion of that autopsy if there were any injuries to her body, any clues.”
In world news -- tropical storm Emily continues to grow as it slammed through the Caribbean and makes its way towards The Dominican Republic and the United States.
“40-mile-per-hour sustained winds is tropical storm emily. It's still away from san juan, puerto rico. You guys are under a tropical storm warning which means you will see that wind and rain action pick up later this afternoon through tonight. It could come close to the Florida or Georgia coastline.” (HLN)
In Syria -- clashes between protestors and government security forces have international leaders pressing further sanctions against President Bashar Al-Assad’s regime. Fox News has the video.
“Security council in new york will meet at this time to discuss the situation. A what we they will agree to do we don't know... Any military action against Syria even with u.n. authority is not even a remote possibility. President Bashar Al-Assad behaving now what seems very much like his father did decades ago.”
In tech news -- Apple has revealed its iCloud, a host of applications, and how much the new technology will cost its faithful following.
PCWorld reports, for now, the beta version of iCloud is only open to a select number of developers. A public launch is expected sometime this fall. Apple promises its online storage will store up to 5 GB of data for free. Apple will charge up to $100 for 50 additional GB. The service replaces Apple’s MobileMe service and is compatible to sync with all iOS devices.
