In a complicated legal maneuver, three men known as the “West Memphis 3” have been freed after 18 years in prison. New evidence doubts the three’s original convictions. MSNBC has the story.
“They were convicted of murdering three 8 year-old boy scouts and mutilating their bodies and dumping them in a ditch. The men have maintained their innocence all along.”
The Dow Jones fell once again -- after plunging 419 points the day before. Trading was light early because of global recession worries. Here’s ABC Good Morning America.
“This is coming after a sell-off. Asia closed down 2.5 pecent. London is down 2.5 percent then France and Germany close to 4 percent lower this morning of course, that continent still reeling from debt prices and concern.”
After Syrian president Bashar al-Assad says the fighting’s over -- forces kill more protesters. Thousands marched across Syria -- calling on Assad to step down. Just a day before -- the U.S. did the same. Here’s Fox News.
“Forces shot and killed at least four protesters while they were leaving a mosque. This is one day after the President Bashar Al-Assad said military operations had actually stopped. According to human rights groups, more than 2,000 protesters have been killed since the uprising began, that was back in March.”
In Israel -- Gaza militants strike back. A Palestinian attack hits the town of Ashdod. This comes a day after Israel launched rockets into Gaza. CNN has more.
“And Israeli jets bomb targets in Gaza for a second straight day today. Militants in Gaza launched at least ten rockets into southern Israel today, the retaliatory attacks were sparked by attacks in Israel Thursday. Seven Israelis were killed.”
