In U.S. news -- GOP presidential hopefuls are gearing up for the Iowa debates Thursday night. Fox News analyzes some of the candidates making waves in the state’s straw poll.
ANCHOR: “Meanwhile, Michele Bachmann born in Iowa is expected to do pretty well.”
MORRIS: "She has a wonderful opportunity in this debate because she actually sits in congress and voted against the debt deal. And she can say look at this thing, because it was so timid, and so limited and so upfront with conditionality, the markets crashed and we got our credit downgraded... I just want to say word about Ron Paul. He may be the biggest winner from the events of the last week because it shows that his very unconventional theories that differ sharply with the conventional wisdom in Washington really might develop some support."
Still in the U.S. -- Colorado police are recounting the arrest of three fugitives siblings dubbed the Dougherty Gang on Wednesday after a car chase and police shoot -- leaving sister Lee Grace injured. WFTS explains what’s next for the trio.
WAXLER: “Detectives from Pasco county have been working nonstop, but the job continues. Two will get on a plane tonight and fly to Colorado and question the trio in person.”
MEDLEY: “Basically I’m going to ask what happened and why. Just a interview.”
WAXLER: “As for the siblings, the Pasco County Sheriff’s office will be working with the FBI to determine when they will return to Pasco County.”
To world news -- where England’s Prime Minister David Cameron plans to stop a leading culprit of the London riots -- social media. CNN reports on his decision to “police” the web.
“Couple of interesting decisions he decided to try to make in terms of looking tough on this. And he is saying he wants the police to have greater powers in dealing with social media. People using twitter, facebook, criminal activity. Clamped down on that and police, social media, which has wide repercussions.”
Still in world news -- Syrian troops continue their push through rebel areas -- advancing toward cities on the Turkish border. Euronews has the latest.
“Although the tanks have left Hama they’re on the move again along with truck-loads of troops. Heading Northwest to the Turkish border. The diplomatic intervention by Turkey once one of Syria’s closest allies is its strongest yet -- over 21,000 refugees are still on Turkish soil.”
Finally in business -- after poking at the top of the markets, Apple surpassed Exxon-Mobil to become the most valuable business in the world. MSNBC explains what the Cupertino-company was worth at Wednesday’s closing bell.
“If you want to sound smart today, tell your friends that apple is now the world's most valuable company, with a market cap of $337 billion. The powerhouse whose shares have jumped 13% this year yesterday knocked Exxon-Mobil out of the top spot at the close of business. Apple had surpassed Exxon on Tuesday, but lost the lead at the closing bell.”
