“On June 24, News Corp. wrote a check to the Republican Party for $1 million.  The check was made out to the RGA – the Republican Governors Association.” (MSNBC)

And with that – the left-leaning media lit up. The Rupert Murdoch owned conservative parent company of Fox News, The New York Post and The Wall Street Journal gave a massive donation to GOP governors.  There are 37 open races this year – the most in history.

On MSNBC, Media Matters president Eric Burns, says Fox just gave a million reasons it’s now the Republican news channel.

“It was a year ago Keith—thereabouts—when I came on this program and said that the evidence showed that Fox News was no longer a news organization, but turning into a political operation. ... They really are doing everything the RNC should be doing. They just do it a lot better.”

After the story broke, many News Corp. subsidiaries reminded viewers of their corporate ownership and issued its official statement. Take a look at KMSP in Minneapolis.

“A spokesperson saying the corporate donation back in June will not have any bearing on any news gathering activities at any of the News Corp properties.”

Usually media companies give to both parties. So what’s behind the one-sided donation? The News Corp.-owned Wall Street Journal suggests, pure self-interest.

“News Corp. and other network owners are tussling with cable companies over licensing fees cable companies pay to broadcast networks' channels. Amid lobbying in Washington, the fight has in some cases flared up at the state level.”

And Politico points out, News Corp. owner, Rupert Murdoch, isn’t an ideologue. He’s a businessman.

“…Murdoch himself has shifted politically many times over the course of his long life, and is more concerned with making money than influencing political outcomes. “

Finally, Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert congratulates News Corp. on making it official.

“They put a ring on it!  And it’s about time! ... You know the wedding’s going to be beautiful. And of course, all white. ... I’m happy for you. I just hope you can make it.  And if you’re ever tempted to call it quits, remember you’ve got to stay together for your giant baby.”

So how do you think the News Corp. donation affects its credibility? Will this be a problem?
