Don’t just look left, Newt. Look out on the right.
GOP front-runner Newt Gingrich has become the target of a new viral video -- slamming him.
Here’s the video, produced by conservative video artist Molotov Mitchell, being texted across the state of Iowa by evangelical preacher Cary Gordon.
“Untrustworthy. Not worthy of being trusted. Synonymous with the word unfaithful.”
“Mothers and fathers of America. Newt and Calista are the last role models we want our sons and daughters looking up to. Seriously, I can’t stand Barack Obama but at least he doesn’t trade in his wives like used cars.”
That’s just a small snippet of the viral video.
The New Civil Rights Movement summarizes the rest of the three minute piece like this:
“The rhythmic, satirical 3-minute video rips Gingrich for his three marriages, two to former mistresses, one of which was his subordinate in the U.S. House and 23 years his junior... It also blasts the former House Speaker for dodging the Iowa Family Leader’s Marriage Vow — a sweeping political pledge document that addresses adultery and fidelity, gay unions and health issues, fatherless children, U.S. monogamy and Islamist polygamy ...”
Preacher Gordon has created effective political campaigns this before. Mediaite calls Gordon...
“...the gay-hating preacher who led the effort to defeat three Iowa Supreme Court Justices over their ruling in favor of same-sex marriage. While the ad is good for a laugh (and a shudder) from people who already don’t like Newt Gingrich, the former House Speaker’s personal history is well-trod ground..."
...Well trod ground that ABC notes -- isn’t likely to sway too many conservative voters.
“Since October, he's gained 19 points in New Hampshire, 23 in Iowa, 35 in South Carolina, and 31 points in Florida...They say, as long as Gingrich is honest about his past indiscretions, voters care a lot more about leadership and the economy. They say this will backfire...”
Who would the Rev. Gordon support? NPR notes...
“Gordon, the pastor, has endorsed Rick Santorum, the former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, for the Republican nomination but he also has said he likes Rep. Michele Bachmann as well.”
Gordon isn’t above forgiveness, though, as noted in the Los Angeles Times.
“Gordon says he forgives Gingrich for his past marital and other transgressions. ‘But at the end of the day, I have to make a decision on his credibility. I think Newt should run for a lower office, serve for a while and show us a record of no flip-flops and consistent support of Christian morality’...”
