A New Mexican teenager is behind bars Sunday for allegedly shooting and killing two adults and three children in their Albuquerque home Saturday night.

Neither the male shooter nor the victims have been identified, but the Albuquerque Journal reports the young gunman was in his mid to late teens, and his relationship to the victims isn’t currently known.

Weapons were found in the home, and the victims appeared to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds, from multiple weapons - including an assault-type rifle. Albuquerque investigators do not know how they came into the teen’s possession. A sheriff told the publication,

“The deputies that went to the house said it’s a disturbing scene. We haven’t had anything like this in the area or countywide in recent memory.”

The arrest in this latest case of gun crime came just days after President Barack Obama outlined his plan to curb America’s culture of gun violence, following the December massacre of 20 children and six adults at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, and one day after the president’s radio address in which he criticized pro-gun pundits for,

“...attempting to derail the debate by framing the proposals as an all out assault on liberty...” and claiming “such responses were more aimed at attracting air time and money than contributing to a national dialogue,” according to The Guardian.

The name or age of the teen in custody has not yet been released. He is being charged with two counts of murder, and three counts of child abuse resulting in death.
