The iPod, iPad and iPhone weren’t enough, so Apple’s Steve Jobs is building a ‘spaceship.’ Actually it will be a new headquarters office building that’s set to house up to 13,000 employees. Bloomberg has more on Job’s unique design.
Steve Jobs: “We’ve seen these these office parks with lots of buildings and they get pretty boring pretty fast so we’d like to do something better than that.”
Announcer: “And one other sign that Apple is in its own world the building will be powered by a natural gas generator Apple will use the city’s power grid only as a back up. So Steve Jobs always considering the aesthetics.”
Apple has purchased 150 acres east of its current number 1 Infinite Loop address for the new project. It’s called “Apple Campus 2”-- and the City of Cupertino has just revealed new details. In addition to the campus’s power plant, plans include underground parking, a 1,000 seat auditorium, a fitness center and a large central courtyard, as well as plenty of green space for Apple employees to enjoy.
At a Cupertino City Council meeting in June -- Jobs expressed the staying power of his new building.
Jobs: I think we do have a shot of building the best office building in the world and I really do think architecture students will come here to see this I think it could be that good.
The project is expected to be approved soon and completed by 2015, because as one Canadian blogger puts it...
“When Steve Jobs shows up personallyto Cupertino City Council meetings to discuss new campus proposals, you better listen to your largest taxpayer.”
