Netflix debuted its revamped tablet app Tuesday, though the app isn’t on the popular iPad yet. Financial News Online says the app is an improvement.
“Coinciding with the first shipments of the Amazon Kindle and the Barnes and Nobles Nook Tablet, Netflix unveiled a new interface for Android-powered tablets that make browsing and instantly watching unlimited TV shows and movie streaming from Netflix better than ever.”
Netflix cites the threefold increase in tablet users last year as motivation for the update. And a writer for The Huffington Post adds that the move fits in with the company’s new direction.
“Getting an attractive and functional tablet app is important for Netflix as they begin to shift away from the familiar DVD-by-mail service to one that emphasizes streaming media...”
But Digital Trends says though the app design looks nice, it has some technical issues...
“We found the navigation to be pleasant, in theory, but really jittery and laggy in practice... Watching a video is more pleasant. We tried out a few HD shows … and each of them came out much clearer than we’ve ever seen them display on a smartphone or tablet version of Netflix before.”
Netflix says the iPad app will debut within a few weeks.
