High-end retailer Neiman Marcus unveiled its annual Christmas Book Tuesday, and Santa might have to take out a loan to cover the gifts inside.
Among the highlights: A private Scotch tasting - complete with bagpipe player, a $45,000 ping pong table, and a custom Ferrari with matching luggage.
If a guilty conscience is all that’s holding you back from splurging, don’t worry... Dallas Morning News explains several gifts have a charity component to put you at ease.
“The His and Her Gift this year is a pair of dancing fountains... cost: a mere $1 million. But $10,000 will benefit Water.org, a nonprofit that works to provide safe drinking water and sanitation to those in developing countries.”
Sure, the catalog might be fun to flip through-- but does anyone actually fill out an order form? Apparently - yes-- according to the Dallas Observer.
“Ginger Reeder, the vice president of corporate communications for Neiman Marcus, said that, yes, people really do buy these things. The recession, she said, hasn't impacted sales at all the last couple of years. ‘It's a completely different type of person,’ she told us.”
And recession or not-- over-the-top extravagance is actually smart business, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
“...luxury is starting to pay again. While frugality may still be chic in this period of post-financial crisis caution, the pendulum is beginning to swing the other way among the most elite consumers.”
Dancing fountains still a little out of your price range? Don’t worry. You can order the catalog itself for only $15.
