NBA stars are taking their talents to…well, any place not named the United States. ESPN gives us the update.

“Many of the NBA’s biggest names are working on a three continent world tour, with stops in Puerto Rico, Macao, London and Australia. LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Kobe Bryant are among those expected to participate. The tour is planned from October 30 to November 9.”

This coming amid the shadows of an undecided start to the NBA season. And for the players, the Los Angeles Times says the tour looks good for the players.

“[Players]may earn up to $1 million for the venture without having to go through any practice grind…And all the excitement surrounding the event would keep the NBA’s marquee players in the headlines for the right reasons.”

But headlines imply fans are actually reading them. Yahoo! Sports writer Edwin Torres argues that fans, including himself, just don’t care.

“Nothing good can come out of these games. The tour will be a cruel reminder of what NBA fans are missing. If the tour does happen, I will not watch the games. However, if there is a high-flying dunk or devastating injury I may take a peek at the highlights.”

And NBC points out, even if you want to watch, headlines might be the only way to follow the tour.

“If you thought seeing your favorite player was expensive last year, you’ll have to dust off your passport, buy a plane ticket to see them now."

Unless you’re already in one of the country’s the players are traveling to. Sydney, Australia’s Pedestrain TV explains just how big this is, saying Aussie fans just had their hoop dreams come true.

“Translation? One of Australia’s most iconic sporting events not involving cauldrons of fire and Nikki Webster.”

But how about the guys that won’t get to travel the globe? NBC Sports says there could be a growing faction between stars and role players.

“The other 430 guys may feel differently… they are not the guys getting money to promote their brand around the globe. They do now or will soon start to feel differently about the lockout than the top guys.”
