So, there are ways to bring attention to your cause — and then there’s this (Warning: adult content ahead):

(PROTESTERS CHANTING)

That was a handful of buck naked protesters who showed up at House Speaker John Boehner’s Longworth House building office Tuesday to protest cuts to HIV/AIDS funding looming in the upcoming so-called “fiscal cliff” debate. Yep, that’s one way to do it.

Per BuzzFeed senior political reporter Chris Geidner, they shouted things like, Boehner, Boehner, don’t be a dick. Budget cuts will make us sick.”

And, “Budget cuts are really rude, that’s why we have to be so lewd.”

The story was told largely through Twitter. In fact, blogs Twitchy and The Huffington Post explained the story through a series of screen grabs of tweets.

As conservative blog Hot Air puts it simply: “Things are just getting weird in Washington today.”

But James Peterson, a guest on MSNBC’s “Martin Bashir” appeared to praise the au naturale agents.

“These protesters are raising the real issues of humanity... We need to have more humanity in these discourses.”

AIDS funding does stand to see cuts within a series of painful across-the-board spending cuts set to kick in January 1st unless lawmakers come up with a more palatable deal to reduce the deficit. This isn’t the first time AIDS activists have taken to unusual campaigning.

Before Thanksgiving they set up shop outside Massachusetts Senator John Kerry’s home.

President Obama and key congressional leaders are working on a deal to avoid the fiscal cliff. Saturday, by the way, is World AIDS Day.
