Myths aren’t the only thing being busted by Discovery Channel’s popular Mythbusters show these days. The show accidentally sent a cannonball whizzing through two houses and a van after an experiment went awry. Oakland’s KTVU explains.

“The cannonball apparently hit something that caused it to shoot over the hillside that protects the neighborhood below. It bounced in front of the house on Casatta Place, through the front door, up the second floor, and exited through a back wall. Then it flew over Tassajara Road, ricoched off the roof of another house, before smashing into this minivan.”

Thankfully, no one was hurt in the incident. But KPIX tells us one neighborhood resident was too close for comfort.

“Had you just gotten out of the van?”

“Yeah, ten minutes ahead... before it hit.”

“Ten minutes before the strike?”

“Yes.”

“Are you feeling lucky tonight?”

“Yeah, I’m lucky I’m alive.”

Mythbusters was filming a segment at a sheriff’s bomb range nearly two miles away. Good Morning America says producers were way off the mark in this bust of an experiment.

“It's safe to assume the guys underestimated the power of a cannonball.”

“What were they trying...”

“They were trying to shoot it into a pool of water to see the impact absorbed. Instead, right on through the concrete wall.”

“Yeah, they missed.”

“Yeah, it's a miss. That's a big miss.”

A miss that could have been much worse. But, although the experiment didn’t go as planned, SF Bay reports the show’s production company is doing what it can to make things right.

“The Mythbusters’ production company, Beyond Productions, issued a statement acknowledging that a cannonball ‘took an unforeseen bounce from a safety berm,’ adding that they are ‘working with’ (read: paying) those whose property was ‘affected’ (read: destroyed).”

Although a big check usually makes things better, a CNET writer has his own idea how Mythbusters can make it up to property owners.

“No one was injured in the making of this disaster. However, presenters Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman have agreed to shave off all of their facial hair as a gesture of shame. No, I have no confirmation of that. I merely think it's the least they can do.”

Production of Mythbusters is on hold while the incident is being investigated.
