Remember the Razr phone? Hottest thing since sliced bread at one point in the tech-continuum?
Motorola hopes to catch lightning in a bottle for a second time.
“Thinner. Smarter. Stronger.”
The new phone has some stellar specs-- more than four inches of screen and a dual-core processor-- boasting it’s “faster than the iPhone 4s.” But Techcrunch wonders about the one bit of info Motorola isn’t talking about.
“There is still one surprise Motorola has left for us: the device’s name. Poking around in the page’s source code reveals a handful of references to the “Spyder,” one of the rumored monikers the phone has been sporting for months now.”
Gizmodo is hoping for the return of the venerable Razr.
“The original series of RAZRs sold more than 130 million units and pretty much saved Motorola's life. This looks like a very worthy reboot to an iconic brand name.”
Motorola’s previous phone, the Droid Bionic, was the king of android phones for all of three weeks. CNET, abandoning all pretense and simply calling the phone the “Droid Razr” says the way Motorola touted the Bionic, this new one will have to stand up to expectations.
“Considering it debuts just a few short weeks after the Droid Bionic-- a device that was supposed to ‘rule all machines’ -- the Droid Razr has big shoes to fill. But in this case, maybe those shoes are thin.”
The tech world won’t have long to wait. A countdown on the Motorola website indicates there are just hours remaining before a press conference.
A press conference where Motorola and Verizon are expected to reveal the new phone-- whatever it ends up being called.
