A mom is behind bars after allegedly trying to sell her 13-year-old daughter’s virginity for $10,000.

Police arrested Felicia McClure after her boyfriend told officers about text messages he found on her phone--texts from a man offering to pay to have sex with McClure’s daughter.

"…Well at this point it’s unsure how long this has been going on.  It is certainly a very serious case that they are looking into every aspect and looking and turning every rock to make sure they have all the information they need…”

According to The Salt Lake Tribune-- McClure admitted to offering up her daughter in exchange for 10-grand. As for her the young teen...

“The girl told police she initially consented to the arrangement but later decided she didn’t want to follow through."

Prosecutors charged McClure with multiple counts of sexual abuse and exploitation of a minor. These felony charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.

This news comes as quite a shock to the Utah community where the McClures live. Most are surprised. Many-- angry.

Neighbor: “That girl was very very kind and sweet.  It makes me sick inside that someone would do something like this especially to a young girl like that, She was the last person to deserve something like this."

And reaction across the blogosphere is pretty much total disgust. A blogger for The Stir writes- McClure may have need the extra cash, but c’mon.

“People do a lot of things in bad economies who are desperate...some turn to extreme couponing while others turn to ... selling their daughter's virginity. Desperate times bring out the worst in some and the best in others, but usually they don't make us sell our own children's future happiness.”

McClure is currently being held in the Salt Lake County Jail. Her bail is set at a quarter of a million dollars.  She currently does not have a lawyer.
